A Brief History of the Barry Coach 163 Ashbury & Co. Built coach No 163 for the Barry Railway in South Wales in 1895. The coach had six-wheels it was 33'11” in long and was originally divided into five compartments, three-second class and two first class. It was used on routes from Barry to Bridgend and Cardiff. The original number was 15 in the composite series up to1909/10 after that time it was renumbered 163. In April 1922 the Barry Railway Company was grouped into the Great Western Railway. The GWR renumbered the coach 6058 and started to modernise the coaching stock it inherited at the grouping, many of the older vehicles from absorbed Welsh railways became surplus to requirements and number 6058 was withdrawn from service in November 1928. The bodies of many of these old coaches were sold for further use as sheds, chicken coops or domestic residences. The body of 6058 was purchased around 1930 and was put to uses as a holiday home in the Clent Hills where it remained until 21st April 1992.
